Military Experience and Work Credit review
Northwood evaluates the Joint Services Transcript and Community College of the Air Force transcripts for all transferable credit. Additionally, veteran and military students with professional experience can also petition for additional credits through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). With this policy, military and veteran student can transfer up to 60 credits with commensurate military and professional experience. This helps reduce the time required for degree completion. Scores and evaluated credit from CLEP, DSST and Defense Acquisition University is also accepted.
Northwood honors the agreements that were established at the time of starting with the university. If more than 5 years has passed since the date of last attendance, an evaluation is conducted to see if the university can honor the program under current course offerings. Options are provided, which could include finishing at another SOC institution as long as SOC residency requirements are fulfilled. If training has occurred in the interim, an updated JST review can be completed with earned credits applied to the selected degree.
Northwood offers a flexible learning model offering students who have been activated or deployed options to continue with their course completion or degree plan. If courses can be completed within the next enrollment period, students may elect to accept an “Incomplete” grade. Should the need to withdraw from classes be necessary, students that complete the withdrawal process with military orders are given a full refund override with no penalty regardless of when during the semester the withdraw occurs. Every effort is made to allow the service member to complete the course with extended time.
Personal Advisor- Each student works with an experienced advisor who provides guidance from admission to graduation. The advisor develops and reviews a personalized degree completion plan and works with students to ensure their coursework and schedule meet both institutional, military/veteran program guidelines.
